I’ve owned this GPS device for about 6 weeks now and it is everything I hoped it would be. For how I use it, it is the perfect balance between features, performance, and price. I really like the speed limit and mph data and to be able to find a mcdonalds with a play area for the kids or to be able to find a hotel to stay in as you’re approaching a town late at night on the highway is very nice. I drove >900 miles to a lake house on a large lake that had no address. Someone emailed me the coordinates (lat and long) and I entered them in the device and the Garmin Nuvi 255W took us right to the front door with no mistakes. After >3200 miles of driving, the 255W gave me total $ of gas used (based on the city and highway mph I entered for my vehicle before we left on the trip), total gallons used, carbon footprint in tons (in case Al Gore calls), and exact number of miles driven. I didn’t use the suction cup mounting but rather, I used the dashboard mount and the vent clip mount. I like both but the dashboard mount is a little more sturdy. If you never need to take the device out of the mount to get a closer look or use the QWERTY keyboard then the vent clip is fine. But if you’re constantly removing it, the dashboard mount is more secure.

Well I received it and set it up. Put in my address to navigate to and it gave me spoken directions half way there and stopped and never came on again. I probably received the faulty one. But other than that the screen was a nice size the features seemed great.

The Garmin 255 is clear, fast, accurate. I bought the refurbished model and it looks new. I have had it now for 4 months and can’t imagine being without it much as I feel about the cell phone. I use it on a daily basis, tracking down addresses for my business. It saves me countless hours of time and frustration. I have just one thing that I would change if I could and that would be, that it have a mileage counter on it. This is my second GPS, the first model, a different brand had a total mile counter that counted down the miles to the destination and an estimated time of arrival, which the Garmin does have. It is nice to know just how far u have left to go before u get there. There are some models of Garmins that don’t tell the street names out, they just say turn right or turn left. The 255 tells u the street names and the direction. My daughter has a model that doesn’t and she like mine better.

I don’t have time to write about everything I like about the device so this review will be short. I have been a PDA user for many years. I was a strong Palm supporter however my TX was stepped on and did not survive that experience. When I was in the market for replacing it I found that Palm has given up on producing newer PDA’s which is very disappointing. So I found my only good option was the HP 211 which is the same thing as HP210. Not only am I very happy that it does everything my TX did, it also does a lot more. The only complaint I have is the size of the HP is just a little too big to hide on your person without looking like a major Geek.
The screen is beautiful
The touch screen is responsive and very easy to work with
The input text software is excellent and easy to learn
Speaker stinks! Get head phones
It comes with almost every program you need (Word, Excel, Outlook and more)
I wish it would vibrate for alarms
I’m very happy with the device. If you are a PDA junkie and do not like phones doing everything then this is your best option.

Works as expected. When plugged in, it shows up as a serial port. It sends NMEA data at 1-second intervals at 4800/8N1. It is based on the PL-2303 USB/serial port.
I plugged it into my Ubuntu Linux box and it was instantly recognized and started sending data to the computer. I had to do nothing to install any drivers, since they are included with the Linux kernel.

Service is awful. The maps on their ads are full page. In reality, they are tiny little things on the web sight. Device is flimsy. The device breaks very easly…. And if you decide to cancel they will charge you $100.
Read the small print. Once this company has you they won’t let go.
The only reason there are good comments here on Amazon. Is because the company offered people a free months service if they left a good comment on here. That should tell you alot about these people.

I bought this phone when my upgrade for verizon was up. i did lots of research and was between the omnia and the blackberry storm. all of the reviews said that the omnia was the better pick, soo i bought it. The omnia is a phone that is meant for use with a stylus not thumbs. Windows mobile lagged quite a bit… so much to the point that i just had to cancel what i was doing to unfreeze it. the accelerometer( turning thing) can get quite annoying. I am a very big texter…. and this is not a texting phone i found myself dreading having to type on it. luckily i had a thirty day grace period and if i didnt like the phone i could return it, which i did and i bought the storm. And i love it. it is so much more user friendly, you can set almost everything to the way you like it.
in conclusion…. if you are looking for a touch phone like the iphone…. skip the omnia and go straight to the storm, with its facebook and flicker built in applications the omnia doesnt compare.

The Magellan Maestro 4210 is a decent, low cost GPS with just enough features to be functional for my basic needs. This GPS does not have a lot of the bells and whistles found on some of the higher-end units, but it isn’t prices like them either.
Here are my observations:
* Very simple to configure and setup, with easy to use and intuitive menus.
* Has a large and clear display, but it does become hard to see in bright sunlight.
* Accurate maps for our area, but we live in a fairly rural area where there aren’t many new roads.
* Clearly spoken directions that are given in an appropriate amount of time (but my daughter said the female voice sounds “Cranky”).
This is a good basic GPS that meets our needs, Recommended!

Just 2 years later, this newer GARMIN is much better, faster and works right out of the box! No software to load. Re-maps almost instantly. Touch screen is easy to see. Simple to use and the price is in line with the features. Why pay a much higher price for stuff you don’t need and obviously won’t use. No overkill here!
