OK, I am used to hiking with Green Trail maps for Washington State. I was hoping that this product would be to their level, or heck even more current. But no way, I pulled up areas I go to frequently and the maps are not even close to he quality of the green trail maps. Which is very sad considering google earth does a better job than this software and it is free.
For all you techies who rated this product highly get grip, paper maps dominate this product. GPS software is not even close to the quality of a paper map. Also, if I wanted to do all of this electronic file manipualtion that other users speak of why even buy a GPS unit. The point is I wanted something superior to old out of date paper maps and instead of that got “new” electronic maps that are worthless.

I had a Garmin GPS map60 before and was always losing signal in tree cover. Haven’t had that problem since I got the 60 CSx. Most of the features are the same exept for the compass and the altimeter. Color is nice also. Worth the extra money.

This is not a bad unit for the price. We used it to travel down to D.C. area and had only a one problem with it. The screen will freeze up on you and then you have to do a hard restart. I believe that it was more operator error then anything else.
I would highly recomend this unit to anyone who is new to Auto GPS. You can’t beat the price on this.

The Good:
- Everything you’d expect from a Garmin, good interface and fairly intuitive.
- Was wary about the loss of external antenna when Garmin went from the 6xx series to the 7xx. But I have never lost satellite lock, not even inside my house while programming it.
- Plenty of POIs, great for finding a familiar restaurant or store when working on the road.
- Seems to learn your usual driving speed over time and calculates destination times accordingly.
- Built in speaker is more than adequate
- Customer service (see below)
The Bad:
- FM Transmitter is weak.
- Be sure to check its planned route first before leaving, like anything that generates directions it can throw you a curve once in a while. This is the exception.
- Check Garmin’s online maps before updating your unit. Their map supplier missed a fairly large new bypass that opened a couple years ago that still wasn’t in the 2009 update. Their cartography department was quick to reply when I inquired about it though. (It will be there in the 2010 update).

This device is a great add on for your TomTom. It has helped me avoid or minimize traffic WHILE DRIVING. I set it on automatic rerouting and I by-passed it all, on a recent trip!

I bought the product for a trip I am taking and feel the POI’s are more up to date than on my GPS but I like the GPS feel and convenience more. The product is as advertised and definitely worth what I paid for it on Amazon since it included its own GPS.

I purchased this item to carry along with me on a motorcycle road trip through Glacier National Park, Yellowstone, etc. Every morning I used the “check/OK” feature to let my friends and family know that I was OK. Then I used the “TRACK” feature so that my location would be tracked by satellite every 10 minutes. At the end of the day I was able to go to the SPOT website and view my daily progress.
The unit is compact, lightweight, rugged, and easy to operate. The unit was turned on at the beginning of each day, and remained on for rides in length of 8 hours plus. Never had to replace the batteries or recharge them during the entire 7-day trip.
Data from this unit can be shared with Google Fire Eagle and uploaded to Facebook page to share with friends. I am very pleased with this unit, and would highly recommend it to anyone who is hiking/backpacking, camping, boating, or on a road trip (cycles or car).

They don’t tell you when you pay $$$ for this little unit that it does not work until you get it out of the box, hook it up and then you have to cough up another $40 for an “annual membership upgrade”. You cannot download one GPS course unless you do this. The so-called “Free Membership” is worthless. So you end up having to pay almost $200. Better off to have bought a scope. This is like someone selling you the razor and then when you want blades, they failed to mention that would be extra. Suggest reading the fine print…but there wasn’t any.
