Service is awful. The maps on their ads are full page. In reality, they are tiny little things on the web sight. Device is flimsy. The device breaks very easly…. And if you decide to cancel they will charge you $100.
Read the small print. Once this company has you they won’t let go.
The only reason there are good comments here on Amazon. Is because the company offered people a free months service if they left a good comment on here. That should tell you alot about these people.

Just 2 years later, this newer GARMIN is much better, faster and works right out of the box! No software to load. Re-maps almost instantly. Touch screen is easy to see. Simple to use and the price is in line with the features. Why pay a much higher price for stuff you don’t need and obviously won’t use. No overkill here!

Long review but here is the SUMMARY: If this is your first GPS, you may be excited with all the features it claims, but for Magellan 32xx/42xx series users, this is a ‘practical’ downgrade.
I own a Magellan 3250 GPS for last 2 years and I was looking for an upgrade. With some nice bells and whistles - lane assist, speed warning, audio player, FM Transmitter etc, Magellan 4350 seemed to be a nice upgrade. And it was being offered at a very good price. I bought it for $153 from Radioshack. Naturally the first thing I did was to compare it against my old Magellan 3250. The GPS unit came with some preloaded SW and it needed to be upgraded to enable few features like ‘vehicle speed’ and the usual Magellan Ding sound. Here is my summary with the latest SW (as of Aug 2009) - 4350 with Aug SW Vs 3250 (2007 Maps & 2009 SW)
Advantages (4350)
- wide screen
- faster recalculation. If I miss a turn, 4350 recalculates route in half of the time as compared to 3250. Compared head to head
- Lane Assist - works well. I live in Portland metro area and on most of the US-26 exits it popped up the Lane assist window. It works well. this is not Junction view. This is only lane assist. It simulates the sign boards on the road
- Auto zoom is cool though it is not a big deal.
- It shows the speed of the vehicle on the main screen in routing mode. In routing mode, Magellan 3250 shows speed on Where am I screen And in non-routing mode, magellan 3250 shows vehicle speed on the main screen.
- Trip simulation is great.
- Multiple routing options are pretty good.
- POI search is very fast and has better database / results than 3250. My 3250 uses 2007 Maps/database.
Disadvantages (4350)
- Ding is very unreliable. Latest SW Enables it. But it is unreliable. Most of the times, you hear it 50 ft before the turn. Sometimes you hear it right at the turn. And sometimes during the process of taking turn (especially on ‘long’ left turns). That is insane.
- Comes with male and female sound options. But the sound is pretty poor quality. A shallowish sound and doesn’t pronounce some simple words correctly, though it gets the point across.
- Very hard to look at the screen during average day light, even if the sun is not directly falling on it. The contrast (foreground vs background) is kind of weird.
- MP3 player is OK-OK when the audio is routed to the mono-speaker of the GPS.
- FM Transmitter - poor quality. This is not usable. This is OK for routing the GPS directions to car audio, but not for routing mp3 audio. My Honda Accord had pretty bad audio on FM (all available frequencies). I have a $18 Coby FM Transmitter which delivers near CD quality static-free audio in the same car on same frequencies.
- Magellan has tried to make routing directions (audio) different, but I guess in that process, they messed it up. It says - ‘take right on street XYZ’, then it says ‘take the 2nd right’, then it says ‘take the next right’. So, it doesn’t truly speak street names everytime. In a sparsely populated area at 35mph, it told me ‘take the 2nd right’ well after it had already passed that turn and I was expected to take the next right rather than the 2nd right. I am wondering how it will route in crowded and congested downtown areas where intersections may be very close to eachother. This was a real deal braker.
- One of the most weird things - On Freeway entrances, it says the same lousy sentence: “Take the next right” as compared to Magellan 3250 that says: “Entering Freeway entrance on the right on USXX-East”. That is pretty lame and lousy.
- Satellite acquiring is unreliable. When it acquires, it is faster than 3250. But sometimes it takes 2-3 min in open areas and it needs a power-off/-on cycle to acquire the satellite. Weird.
- Bluetooth - It paired with my two Blackberries (8310 & 8820) effortlessly. But weird that when it receives a call, it doesn’t display the caller-ID. it displays ‘unknown number’. Amazing! I am not talking about caller’s name, I am talking about the number. My magellan 3250 displays the caller ID (not the name). May be we need to pay $6 per month to enable Caller-ID like we pay to Verizon for caller-ID:)
- Speed warning: It does pop-up on highways. For example, on US-26 it did pop-up pretty reliably. But on the freeway which has speed limit of 55mph, it showed 50mph throughout the freeway. Magellan 4350 was launched in Oct 2008. I know this highway has the same speed limit for last 2 years (at least). So it doesn’t make sense.
- It doesn’t tell you which street you are ON. It tells that only if you are not in routing mode. But that is insane. In routing mode, it only shows which lane you need to turn on. After all that wide screen, they didn’t find enough space to fit that info. 3250 has this.
- It doesn’t tell you whether you are heading, N, S, E or W. Magellan 3250 has this. Oops, this was supposed to be a GPS!!
- It doesn’t tell you the speed of the vehicle unless you are in routing mode. Very weird.
Because of all these disadvantages (downgrades from 3250), I returned it in 2 days and decided to live with my 3250.

I used my Garmin 360 on a 3300 mile motorcycle ride. It was subject to considerable vibration and a few drops of rain. It performed flawlessly although the suction mount broke loose after hitting a particlarly nasty pot hole. (I had used the supplied smooth disk and glued it to the dash of my bike. I wrapped the extra wire from the cigarette charging unit around the handle bars in case of just such an event.) Periodically I had to realign the angle of the unit so it was facing toward me. It would droop after a time. The swivel could use a wider range of motion and could be tighter. I had to watch the mounting disk carefully. After a day of sitting in the sun it would some times warm up and begin to loosen.
The unit I received had the 2009 maps installed although the 2010 maps were available at the time of purchase. It could have been more up to date. I did not encounter any road that had changed enough to make any difference.
Overall, the unit performed flawlessly. It ran on battery long enough to take care of any and all off-bike excursions. I dropped it in my pocket several times when I was in cars with other people. It was just a handy thing to have. It was accurate although the screen refresh rate could have been faster at times. I was nearly through a few intersections before the screen would show a turn. The manual is adequate for an introduction. There are many hidden features and capabilities that are not referenced in the manual at all. Experiment a lot and you will find them.
The only problems I had were with the mounting system. It wasn’t designed for a motorcycle, although I don’t know what difference it makes. The dash of a car would certainly get hotter than the dash on a bike. The glued on mounting disk would come off a car dash too. I have had the suction cup system fall off the dash of a car too. It is a good mounting system, just not great. It could be better.
I would buy this unit again, although I would shop carefully for price.

This was the cheapest GPS I could find for sale. I have seen some random blow out specials slightly lower, but they are of an inferior product. I bought the refurbished version of this GPS. The maps are over a year old when you get it and even if you register you do not get a free update. I used it to travel and found it invaluable. Quick satellite communication and fast recalculations (for when you miss your turn anyway). The suction cup is amazingly strong. This is an older unit and is a little bulky. Given for $30 more you can get a thinner 4.3″ unit I gave this a 4 star instead of a 5, if it were cheaper or thinner or a larger screen it would be a 5.

I have had this unit for several years and like it alot. I have taken it to florida or wherever we go. It takes a few minutes to program but finds accurately where you want to go. I like how you can update the maps at Garmin for free. Only downside is you can now find cheaper models that have touch screen programming.

I knew about the problems people had been having with these units, so I made sure to install the firmware update before I updated the maps. And guess what - it still died. So now I have a brand-new GPS that won’t even switch on, and I have to send it back to Garmin and wait a couple of weeks to get it fixed. Man, I hope someone starts a class-action suit against these clowns.

This was ready to use and worked right out of the box. The maps are not as up-to-date as I would have expected, but I think I can update once for free if I do it right away. This is my first GPS and I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

Portable automobile GPS navigation systems , such as those from Garmin, Magellan, Navigon, and TomTom, can be swap the unit from one car to another, and can have more features, and are less expensive than the factory installed built in or add on units. If you frequently drive a different car, rent cars, drive business or leased vehicles, or trade cars often, a portable unit is a great way to go.
Portable GPS units come with a numberof features and screen sizes as well as a broad range of prices. Some have a wide-screen, some use a standard screen. Several have features such as a Bluetooth connection with your cell phone while driving. Others have music players and photo displays. A few offer real-time traffic display, requiring a monthly subscription fee.
The majority of portable GPS systems mount to a vehicle’s dash or window, allowing quick removal when not needed. Nearly all new devices have robust satellite receivers and built-in GPS antennas, eliminating the need to have an external antenna. Some work from batteries while others require the use of a power plug.
It’s usually very easy to update a portable GPS with new maps and updated software by attaching it to your PC and downloading from the manufacturer’s web site.
When buying a auto GPS navigation system, look for feature such as ease of use, voice directions, updatable maps, and a easy to read screen. A touch screen helps if you have to interact with the unit while driving. A number of all-in-one (AIO) portable GPS units such as the Garmin Nuvi 765T, now offer travel-related features such as language translators, audio book players, MP3 music players, and more. If you don’t need all the extra features, purchase a less expensive unit such as the Garmin 2 5 5. Also choose a unit which provides a easy mounting method that will work in your particular vehicles.
