The Pharos Drive GPS 200 is an excellent VALUE. I’d refer anybody considering this unit to a Tom’s Guide review of “5 Stellar GPS Units Under $150″: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/GPS-navigation-cheap,review-1181-10.html . The Tom’s Guide review was written on December 22, 2008. I am definitely satisfied!

I’ve been using a Garmin Nuvi 260W for over a year and I do a lot of traveling. It works OK about 75% of the time, but the 25% takes me off route and to the wrong locations. And the dealbreaker for me is the long long long waits for customer service. I don’t have time to wait 30 minutes to talk with someone. I’m now in the market for another brand.

I started out geocaching with an original Garmin 60 GPS. That was a very good unit but I wanted something that I could download caches easier with along with descriptions. I was going to upgrade to the Garmin 60CSx but with the recommendation of a friend I purched the Delorme PN-40.
The Delorme has proven to be a great gps. Overall is it a very fine unit that only has four issues in my book. First my biggest issue is that the screen is too small in my opinion. The unit itself seems like it could easily have held a much bigger screen if they had just lessened the black bars around it. With that I would have given this 5 stars easily. My other issues are that the beep tone is way to low even at the highest setting. The cable connection is unique compared to most other gps units I’ve seen and I’m afraid that I might accidently break the flaps (for lack of a better word) as the cable head is slid into place. I don’t see why the didn’t use a universal connection like most manufacturers. Lastly the installation and software management is designed for a much more technical user. The topo maps are great but some type of tutorial is needed. This unit has commercial market and is sided towards that.
All that said this is the best unit I’ve used (mine and friends) and I’ve already taken out out once and found 5 caches with it. Also, the pocket query where you can download up to 500 caches at once via[...] is awesome. My unit came with a 30 day premier subsciption (which is needed for a pocket query).
As for accessories, I bought the dedicated ram mount so I can use this unit with my ATV this fall/winter and I got a 16 GB SDHC flash memory card. You need at least an 8GB to download the topo maps and pocket queries. Next I’ll be buying the power kit for it. A friend has it and says it works great.
As an experienced geo cacher this unit is tops and really does what I need it to do. I just wish the screen was bigger.
