Portable automobile GPS navigation systems , such as those from Garmin, Magellan, Navigon, and TomTom, can be swap the unit from one car to another, and can have more features, and are less expensive than the factory installed built in or add on units. If you frequently drive a different car, rent cars, drive business or leased vehicles, or trade cars often, a portable unit is a great way to go.
Portable GPS units come with a numberof features and screen sizes as well as a broad range of prices. Some have a wide-screen, some use a standard screen. Several have features such as a Bluetooth connection with your cell phone while driving. Others have music players and photo displays. A few offer real-time traffic display, requiring a monthly subscription fee.
The majority of portable GPS systems mount to a vehicle’s dash or window, allowing quick removal when not needed. Nearly all new devices have robust satellite receivers and built-in GPS antennas, eliminating the need to have an external antenna. Some work from batteries while others require the use of a power plug.
It’s usually very easy to update a portable GPS with new maps and updated software by attaching it to your PC and downloading from the manufacturer’s web site.
When buying a auto GPS navigation system, look for feature such as ease of use, voice directions, updatable maps, and a easy to read screen. A touch screen helps if you have to interact with the unit while driving. A number of all-in-one (AIO) portable GPS units such as the Garmin Nuvi 765T, now offer travel-related features such as language translators, audio book players, MP3 music players, and more. If you don’t need all the extra features, purchase a less expensive unit such as the Garmin 2 5 5. Also choose a unit which provides a easy mounting method that will work in your particular vehicles.

Before I show you the GPS Prices From Ebay (which are below) here’s a Tip - Know what you want and need before buying and know that you are are buying the right GPS.
The last GPS I purchased has problems with search. It takes a very long time to find a place 200 miles away from my location.
For example, if you type “tire”, it will find tire store 200 miles from my home.
The one I bought two years ago can do all the search but that GPS had some problems with the touch screen.
So now I need to put two GPS units in the same car. Don’t make this mistake. Pay a little more and buy what you need.

This little GPS will never get you lost. I use it more than I ever expected too. Don’t need to read a map anymore with this thing. Highly recommend this to any one that travels or just wants to find a reasturant or any points of interest.

Foolish me. I originally tried to order a Deluo 31-311-01 USB GPS for Laptop directly from the company. For some reason, it was back ordered. But the company never told me — I only found out because after waiting for some time for an email with a tracking number, I finally went back to their site, and there they were, those dreaded words, “Back Ordered.” And of course, no one at that company had a clue as to when it might ship. So I turned to trusty Amazon, and had it in my hand a couple of days later.
The Deluo 31-311-01 USB GPS for Laptop itself works great once you figure a couple of things out. First, the software is a little funky. If you plug the unit into the computer before booting, the touch pad goes nuts, and you lose all control over the computer. It becomes necessary to do a hard reboot just to regain control over the computer. So make sure to plug the GPS into the computer AFTER the computer is finished booting and after you launch Streets or whatever program you use.
The unit sometimes takes a few minutes to find the sats, but more often than not, it connects very quickly. And it’s very accurate. Even zoomed in as tight as Streets will go, it puts me on the proper side of an intersection.
If you are in an urban canyon surrounded by tall buildings, it sometimes has a little trouble getting an exact position, but this may be due to the sat’s signal bouncing off the buildings.
All in all, a good unit. But buy it from Amazon, and save yourself some grief.

It is a good product, but just a little expensive.
And there is a small place that is not so convenient, when I chose a destination to go and I move the map to see how it goes. It just choose another destination for me and direct me to the new address. Hope Garmin could improve their design and not let their custom change their destination so easily and unconsciously.

Like most Nikon gear this unit is built well and works great. I have had two other cheaper off brand GPSs fail on my D300. With the Nikon name this GPS is a bit overpriced, but will last forever.

The Pharos Drive GPS 200 is an excellent VALUE. I’d refer anybody considering this unit to a Tom’s Guide review of “5 Stellar GPS Units Under $150″: http://www.tomsguide.com/us/GPS-navigation-cheap,review-1181-10.html . The Tom’s Guide review was written on December 22, 2008. I am definitely satisfied!

Seattle can have terrible GPS reception, especially when driving North/South on I-5. There seems to be a number of dead zones around the city. I own a Garmin 760 and sometimes I can drive all the way to my destination before it acquires a satellite. However, using one of these Gillson antennas I get full satellite signals almost right away and the accuracy is so good it can tell what lane you are in!

Device is working perfectly and very accurate too. The only concern is Garmin should provide some software to photo geo-tagging with device. Also nice to have some software to directly upload to google maps and earth.

I’ve been using a Garmin Nuvi 260W for over a year and I do a lot of traveling. It works OK about 75% of the time, but the 25% takes me off route and to the wrong locations. And the dealbreaker for me is the long long long waits for customer service. I don’t have time to wait 30 minutes to talk with someone. I’m now in the market for another brand.
